History
Team
In KS3 the history team consists of one full time teacher plus specialist support staff in each session.
Achievement and Progress
At Oaklands, history is delivered at KS3 where each group receives one 35 minute session each week. Assessment is made through continual teacher analysis which gives opportunities for additional support or extension activities.
Curriculum Overview
The aims of teaching history is firstly to develop students awareness of the world they live in, establishing meanings to help them understand how and why things happen. Furthermore it is to reinforce key functional skills in literacy, numeracy and ICT through the medium of history.
History is delivered in a stimulating environment where students have access to the latest information technology (interactive whiteboards, iPads, and laptops). Additionally students historical understanding is reinforced through kinaesthetic, audio and visual teaching strategies, a regular programme of educational visits, audio visual aids and the use of drama.
