RSHE
Relationship, Sex and Health education
Relationship, sex and health (RSHE) education focuses on helping pupils make informed choices about their relationships, physical and mental health. Our RSHE programme runs alongside our PSHE and Science programmes and is tailored to our pupils to ensure it is both beneficial and appropriate. We endeavour to ensure that our RSHE programme is inclusive of all pupils, regardless of background, sexuality, race or gender. RSHE at Oaklands is delivered in a sensitive manner by experienced teachers. Content will include information and learning about:
- Characteristics of a healthy relationship, including friendships
- Different types of long-term relationships, including marriage and civil partnerships
- Growing up and the changing adolescent body
- Strategies to resist sexual pressure, peer pressure and pressure from the media
- Acceptable and unacceptable behaviour in relationships
- Safer sex, contraceptives and sexual health
- Benefits of healthy relationships to pupils' mental wellbeing and self-respect
- Facts and the law about sex, sexuality, sexual health and gender identity in an age-appropriate and inclusive way
- Unsafe relationships including; grooming, sexual exploitation, domestic abuse, coercive and controlling behaviour
