Geography

Team

Geography at Oaklands is taught by a team of teachers and supported by teaching assistants. Co-ordination of the subject is overseen by the subject leader.

Achievement and Progress

KS3 students receive one 30-minute lesson of Geography each week. Lessons consist of both practical and written activities and provide links to a variety of other subjects such as English, Science and sustainability. Assessment of progress is monitored by continuous teacher analysis which provides opportunities for additional support or extension activities.

Curriculum Overview

Within Geography lessons,  pupils are encouraged at all points within the curriculum to question and develop a deeper level of thinking about the things that occur within the world around us, whether that be within our locality or the wider world. We have a strong belief that our pupils learn best through first-hand experiences and this is presented strongly throughout our curriculum through the use of fieldwork both on and off school-site. Pupils are encouraged to be sustainable and ecological thinkers and to understand the impact that our actions have on planet earth, which is a deep- rooted ethos of our school.
